Destination Wedding

There are a multitude of reasons to have a destination wedding. If you’ve decided to have one, you may have some questions. This post is for you! In this post, I’ll talk about ways to have a wedding at your favorite spot and hopefully put your mind at ease about any concerns you may have.

I’m fortunate enough to live on California’s Central Coast and smack dab in the middle between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Between that and the hundreds of wineries in San Luis Obispo county, I live in a great place for destination weddings. My experience with destination weddings has given me a lot of insight, which I’m happy to share with you.

Is Having A Destination Wedding Rude?

Most couples choose a destination type wedding for the convenience of their guests. Family comes from all over the country, if not the world, for weddings. Having your wedding in a central location can make it easy for your guests and can allow them the excuse they need to have a little vacation.

Some couples fall in love with an area and can’t imagine having their wedding anywhere else. I think this is a wonderful reason to have your wedding at a far away destination. Your relationship is unique and your wedding should be a reflection of the two of you. The location is a huge part of that, so why not have it where you love?

In short, no. I don’t think having a destination wedding is rude at all. In fact, I think it one of the best things to do if it’s the right fit for your wedding.

Destination Wedding Packing List

It’s especially important to bring everything you need with you for destination weddings. There’s no way to run home really quick if you forget something! Here are some things that you’ll want to be sure to bring with you.

  • Family heirlooms
  • Toiletries
  • Something old, something new…

Destination Wedding Packages

Wedding vendors have seen it all and they know that each wedding is unique. We also know that planning a wedding from a distance is not easy. Many of us try to help.

Probably the best way to plan a destination wedding is to hire a coordinator or wedding planner. Many coordinators will have a destination package that can reduce costs as well as coordinate vendors that have experience with these types of weddings.

Since you will be planning from a distance, it’s important to hire vendors that you can trust completely. Coordinators can help tremendously with this.

California Winery Weddings

As I mentioned above, I live in an area that has an abundance of wineries. This makes San Luis Obispo County the perfect spot for destination weddings. Wineries are amazing for destination weddings. Most wineries can handle very large weddings and some offer on-site accommodations.

If you’re looking for a venue for your destination wedding, I recommend starting with wineries.
