Engagement Photos

Engagement photos are definitely something you shouldn’t skip. They help you prepare for the big day and are a fantastic way for you and your photographer to get to know each other.

I like to make engagement photos as fun as possible and there are several ways to do that. In this post, I’ll share all the little tips and tricks I have as well as some ideas you can use when planning your own engagement photos.

Location

Choosing a location for your engagement photos is the first step. I like to advise my clients to choose a place that is meaningful to both of them. This could be a coffee shop, a favorite hiking trail, a rock climbing place or even an arcade that you both enjoy.

Get creative here and have fun!

Activities

Planning for a few activities are a great way to really let your personality and relationship shine in your pictures. When you do things you love, with the person you love, you’re bound to have smiles.

Here are some ideas for fun activities to do.

  • Visit an ice cream shop
  • Go camping
  • Get coffee at a local coffee shop
  • Go horseback riding
  • Visit your favorite hiking trail

Outfits

Having more than one outfit to wear for your engagement photos is essential. I recommend at least two different outfits for my couples.

The first is more casual and can be jeans or shorts, depending on the location. This should be an outfit that you can move well in. We’ll be doing activities like piggy back rides and things that require a lot of movement.

The second outfit should be a little more formal. Flowy dresses are always a good choice and the guy’s shirt should coordinate with the colors of her dress. Avoid stripes on shirts as they can cause a distorted look when the camera tries to interpret the pattern.

Incorporating the little things

Finally, I like to suggest that my clients bring anything that is unique and meaningful to them. These can be things like a family heirloom, your dog or even your horse!. You can incorporate your hobbies and interests as well.

Not all of your pictures will have these things in them, but if they are a big part of you or who you are together, we should include them in your photos. These are, after all, a representation of you!
