Proposing At Christmas

Proposing marriage at Christmas is becoming more and more common and for good reason! Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of the year. What better way to make it even more amazing than adding a marriage proposal to the festivities?

Location

It’s important to consider the location when planning to propose. Your proposal story will be told for years to come, so make sure you both love the location.

Some good Christmas proposal locations are:

  • By the tree
  • While ice skating
  • Under the mistletoe
  • In the snow

Hide The Ring – Christmas Proposal Ideas

Christmas offers endless ideas for hiding the ring. It’s even easy to hide the ring in plain sight! After you’ve chosen the location for your proposal, you can start to think of where you’ll hide the ring, if it’s not going to be in your pocket. Below are some fun ideas for letting your significant other find the ring. Just be sure to offer hints if they need a little help.

  • Hang it on an ornament on the tree
  • Put it in their stocking
  • Make it part of the place setting at Christmas dinner

Audience

Another thing to consider is who you want to witness your proposal. If you propose on Christmas, it may be more difficult to be alone. In that case, plan on having family present when you pop the question.

If you’d rather have more privacy, Christmas Eve can be a good option as there will likely be fewer people around. You’ll still have the Christmas atmosphere, but you won’t have the pressure of such a large audience.

Recruiting Help

Christmas Day is likely not a day that will be easy to find a photographer willing to help. In this case, I recommend recruiting a friend. You can let them in on your plans and make sure they’re around to photograph the bib moment.

After Christmas, when all the decorations are still up, you can schedule a photo session to recreate the moment with a professional photographer. I highly recommend this. These pictures will not only keep the memory of your amazing proposal alive, but it can serve as your engagement photos for save-the-date cards.
